Some would argue that Beef Jerkey rivals sunflower seeds as the all time favorite snack food. They are both synonymous with outdoor activities such as fishing, camping and sporting events. Before modern times, making Jerky was the best and sometimes only way to preserve meat so it would not spoil. Even though we now have the technology and the know how to preserve meat any number of ways, a great majority of people still enjoy the convenience, the taste, and the overall experience of eating Beef Jerkey. Sunflower seeds have a rich history as well, but I would have to say that their main purpose is keeping ones mouth busy as opposed to being a truly enjoyable Gourmet Experience
I admit it is fun to pop those little salty seeds into your mouth, sometimes a handful at a time and spit the shells out; repeating this ritual until your lips and cheek insides resemble a prune. Eating Beef Jerkey on the other hand is a much more civilized affair. It could still be considered busy work for ones mouth I suppose, as it has been marketed as a chewing tobacco replacement many times. With the right motivation and maybe the right combination of pepper and spices, it could help a tobacco chewer kick the habit. I cannot imagine it being any less effective than eating sunflower seeds. Maybe that was just a conspiracy by the MLB, Big Tobacco and David, that gentleman responsible for all the sunflower seed shells you see all over the ground at any major league stadium.
Spelling is not important (Google always knows what you mean anyways) when it comes to Quality Beef Jerkey. The quality of the meat that you start out with makes all the difference in the world. Most Reputable Jerky manufacturers will use Beef Brisket, but so long as you use a lean cut such as top sirloin, round eye, filet, etc and cut you will be fine. The trick is to slice the meat very thin and with the grain so that you can see the lines of the muscle. Yes, Jerky may be more difficult to make and more expensive to buy, it is a much more fulfilling snack experience than the lack luster sunflower.
