Every year I, “Jerky Jed” personally get out and mingle with the Oktoberfest crowd, a fun group that knows how to party! Of course we sample the best beef jerky, Jed’s Beef Jerky of course! As every show we offer free samples, usually 3 or 4 different flavors. It’s always interesting to see what trends and styles and peoples taste. This year my belief is it’s going to be a warm winter and hot summer! Amazing most people are asking for the hot stuff, and the hotter the better! Now this is not a scientific study, just my personal observation. Now that does not mean the Teriyaki group is not large and impressive, but this year we have handed out more samples and sold more Jedidiah’s Private Reserve Hot and Spicy Teriyaki than any other previous show.
Perhaps the location makes a big difference, we were in the southern California area. And just maybe people in general are getting to like the spicier side of life, and like my title said, “some people like it Hot”. What will it be next year, will this trend continue? Only time will tell, but in the mean time we will keep producing spicy jerky for the hot and spicy group, and endeavor to make even hotter flavors to see how hot is hot. Perhaps we will develop beef jerky so hot it’s on fire right out of the package, like banana fosters made table side or maybe cherries jubilee. Let me check with the fire marshal first! Until next time we will just have to see how far we can push the boundary of spicy to who knows? Maybe someday jerky will come with warning labels, warning people of the heat content and the need for moderation, but it might be fun to watch!
