Making Beef Jerky from scratch requires patience, practice and perseverance. If you are like me, and do not have the time make your own Jerky or the desire to learn how, then it is probably a good idea to Buy Jerky. In every grocery store I visit, the Beef Jerky is always strategically placed on one of the aisle end caps (usually and the end of the beer aisle!) begging to be added to the increasing number of impulse purchases already sitting in my shopping cart.
Each time it is the same scenario. I see the colorful package and I think to myself, “I have not had Good Jerky in quite awhile maybe I should pick up some…” Before I can finish my thought I see the price tag and I am immediately frozen with sticker shock. That is way too much money for the little bit of meat in that bag. A few dollars per pound I can understand but a few dollars per ounce is something entirely different. There are ways around the exorbitant prices of most brand name Beef Jerky. You can shop at one of those warehouse, discount price club type places but I find that I usually do not need 20 pounds of jerky at any given time, especially when it is all one flavor. Another alternative is to Buy Jerky online. That way you will not be paying for some retailer’s overhead. Making your own Jerky at home is a viable option as well, but as I said earlier, that requires a level of dedication and a good amount of free time that few of us have.
Whether you Buy Jerky at a store, make it yourself or order it online, it is important that you know what you are looking for and that you accept nothing less than the finest quality. Your local Farmer’s Market is a great place to discover fantastic Jerky. You can find some of the best homemade Jerky in the world in your own backyard if you care to look. Private vendors tend to take a lot of pride in their craft and use nothing but the finest in natural ingredients
